Partition types we supply and install
Most fit-outs use one of these systems, or a mix of them across the floor.
Framed
Aluminium framing around each panel, from a commercial section to slimline black. Framed systems handle out-of-square walls and level changes, and give a defined edge that suits a designer fit-out.
Frameless
The most open look available, with slim top and bottom channels and clear joints between panels, so nothing interrupts the sightline.
Double glazed
Two panes in a framed system with a cavity between them. The usual answer for boardrooms that need real separation from a busy open-plan floor.
Acoustic
Laminated glass with an acoustic interlayer, used on its own or inside a double glazed unit, for quiet rooms, phone rooms and consulting suites.
Partition walls and fronts
Office glass partitions built as one system: meeting room fronts, reception fronts and corridor glazing, set out so panel joints line up with the ceiling grid.
How much sound a glass partition actually stops
Acoustic performance is a whole-of-system question, not a glass question. Laminated and double glazed panels carry noticeably less sound than a single clear pane, and that is usually the biggest single improvement available. But the junctions, the seals, the door and whether the partition runs to the slab or stops at the ceiling grid matter just as much. A quiet room with a poorly sealed door is not a quiet room. So we specify the glass and the detailing to suit what the room is actually for, rather than promise a rating the finished build-up may not deliver.
Doors within the partition
Doors are set out with the partition rather than added afterwards, so heads line up and hardware matches the framing. Locks, closers and floor springs are specified to suit your access control.
Hinged
Frameless doors on patch fittings, or a framed leaf hung within the partition frame. The standard choice for meeting rooms.
Sliding
Top-hung panels on a track above the opening, across the face of the glass or into a cavity, where a swing door would eat into a tight floor plate.
Finishes, privacy and branding
- Clear. Maximum light and uninterrupted sightlines across the floor.
- Frosted or manifestation film. A full obscured panel, a band at eye height or a custom pattern. See our frosted and sandblasted glass options for designs blasted permanently into the panel.
- Printed and branded glass. Logos, wayfinding and printed graphics for reception fronts and boardrooms.
Safety glazing and compliance
Glass in internal partitions and doors is safety glazing, so we glaze to AS 1288, the Australian Standard for glass in buildings, using toughened or laminated glass as the application requires. Full-height clear panels also need visual markers so the glass is visible, which is what a manifestation band or frosted strip does while it earns its keep aesthetically. We are licensed Victorian glaziers, AGWA accredited and fully insured with public liability cover, and the paperwork comes with the handover.
Built around your fit-out program
Glass partition walls in Melbourne fit-outs land late in the program, after ceilings, services and flooring, so every delay upstream arrives at our door.
- We coordinate with the other trades. Set-out is checked against the ceiling fixer, the electrician and the flooring before anything is cut, because glass cannot be trimmed on site.
- Staged around your tenancy. A working office should not lose a day to a glazing crew, so we stage the install to suit the floor and keep disruption to a minimum. Talk to us about timing and we will work to what the building allows.
- Defect-free handover. The same promise we give on 100+ builder projects.
- Trade accounts. Registered builders and shopfitters get trade pricing, priority scheduling and a quote within 48 hours. See our commercial and trade glazing page.
Who we build partitions for
Offices and co-working floors, hospitality venues separating a dining area without walling it off, medical and allied health rooms, schools and training rooms, and showrooms where the product has to stay visible. We install glass partitions across Melbourne, from CBD tenancies to industrial estate offices in the south-east.
From site measure to handover
- Site measure. We measure the opening once the substrate is in, not off the drawings alone.
- Shop drawings. Panel set-out, door swings, joints and finishes issued for your sign-off.
- Fabricate. Cut, toughened or laminated and finished in our Dandenong South factory.
- Install. Our own glaziers, scheduled to your program.
- Handover. Doors adjusted, glass cleaned, defect-free sign-off and warranty documentation.
Why Melbourne businesses choose Star Glass
We run our own factory at 220 Frankston-Dandenong Rd, Dandenong South, and employ our own glaziers, so the person who measured the job is accountable for the panel that arrives. For glass office partitions across Melbourne, we are the reputable, guaranteed choice, quoted up front and never a race to the bottom.

Glass partition questions
Do you supply and install, or supply only?
Both. Most clients take supply and install for a single point of responsibility, but we will supply panels to a builder or shopfitter with their own crew.
What is the difference between framed and frameless glass partitions?
Framed systems put an aluminium section around each panel, which handles out-of-square walls and level changes. Frameless uses slim channels and clear joints for the most open sightline, and needs a truer building to sit in.
How quiet will a meeting room be?
Quieter with laminated or double glazed panels than with a single clear pane, and quieter again if the partition runs to the slab and the door seals properly. We talk through the trade-offs for the room rather than quote a number.
Can you install without shutting the office down?
In most cases yes. We stage the work area by area so the rest of the floor keeps running, and we agree the sequence with you and the building manager before we start.
Can we put a logo or frosting on the glass?
Yes. Frosted bands, manifestation film, sandblasted logos and printed graphics are all available, agreed at shop drawing stage.
Do the partitions meet Australian Standards?
Yes. Internal partitions and doors are glazed as safety glazing to AS 1288, with visual markers on full-height clear panels. We are AGWA accredited and licensed Victorian glaziers.
How much do glass office partitions cost?
It depends on linear metres, glass type, framed or frameless, the doors and the finishes. We quote from your plans or a site measure, and registered trade clients are priced on their account.
Do you work outside the CBD?
Yes. We install glass partitions in Melbourne metro-wide from our Dandenong South factory, and travel further for larger projects.
