Shower Screens Melbourne: Frameless, Semi-Frameless and Sliding

Measured in your bathroom, made in our own Dandenong South factory, installed by our own licensed glaziers.

Star Glass has been making shower screens Melbourne homeowners and builders rely on for more than 25 years. Family owned, with our own factory and our own glaziers, so the team that measures your bathroom also makes and fits the glass.

From $999, installed. Most screens land between $1,499 and $2,499.

Made to Your Bathroom, Not to a Catalogue

Few bathrooms are truly square. Walls lean, tiles bow, and floors fall towards the waste. A screen bought off a shelf has to be packed out and siliconed into the gaps, which is where untidy lines and slow leaks begin. We make custom shower screens across Melbourne to the measurements we take on site, so the panel follows the tiling and the floor. Made-to-measure glass shower screens across Melbourne sit flush and seal properly.

Choose Your Style

Frameless Minimal hardware, most open look Toughened safety glass Semi-frameless Slim frame on the fixed panel Sharp finish, practical middle ground Sliding No door swing needed Best where space is tight

The three styles we make. Every screen is measured to your bathroom and made in our own factory.

Three styles cover almost every bathroom. Each has its own look and its own trade-offs.

Frameless

Toughened panels held by minimal hardware, with no frame and no top track, so nothing interrupts the tiling or the light. Suits walk-in showers and renovations where the shower should read as part of the room. Frameless shower screens in Melbourne homes are the style we are asked for most.

Trade-offs: the dearest of the three, and the least forgiving of out-of-square walls.

Semi-Frameless

A slim frame on the fixed panel with a frameless door: most of the open look, with the frame absorbing small variations in the walls. Suits family bathrooms, ensuites and rental properties, and is generally the more economical of the two.

Trade-off: a visible frame edge, far slimmer than a fully framed screen.

Sliding

Panels on a track, so nothing swings out into the room. Suits ensuites, alcoves and small bathrooms where a hinged door would foul the vanity.

Trade-offs: only half the opening is ever clear, and the track needs an occasional wipe out so grit does not slow the rollers.

Black-Framed

Matte black framing to match black tapware, with the same tolerance for imperfect walls as semi-frameless.

Glass and Safety

Every screen uses toughened safety glass, made and installed to AS 1288, the Australian Standard for glass in buildings. Toughening puts the surfaces under compression, so the panel is far stronger than ordinary glass of the same thickness and, if it ever does fail, breaks into small blunt granules rather than long shards. Star Glass is AGWA accredited, our glaziers are licensed in Victoria and fully insured, and your glass is cut and toughened in our own factory.

Hardware, Seals and Finishes

The glass is what you look at. The hardware decides how the screen feels in five years.

Hardware comes in a range of finishes, so your screen can be matched to your tapware. We will run through the options when we quote.

Measure, Make, Install

Because we handle shower screen installation across Melbourne ourselves, there is one point of contact from the first measure to the final adjustment.

Looking After Your Screen

What ages a screen is rarely the glass. It is soap scum, hard-water marks and neglected seals.

Looked after, a well-made shower screen in Melbourne homes will outlast the tiling around it.

Shower Screen Questions

What is the difference between frameless and semi-frameless?

Frameless has no surrounding frame, just toughened panels and minimal hardware. Semi-frameless keeps a slim frame on the fixed panel, which is more forgiving of walls that are not quite square.

Shower screens start from $999, fully installed. As a guide, a single fixed panel is $999 to $1,499, a standard two-panel screen with a door is $1,499 to $1,999, and a corner, three-sided or oversized screen is $1,499 to $2,499. Your exact price is confirmed after a free measure.

Yes. Every screen is measured in your bathroom and made to those measurements in our own factory. We do not fit stock sizes and pack out the difference.

Toughened safety glass, made and installed to AS 1288. It breaks into small blunt granules rather than sharp shards.

Both. Our own licensed glaziers fit every screen we make, so one business is responsible for the finished job.

Usually sliding, because no door swings into the room. We will look at the layout on site and tell you honestly what will fit.

Sometimes, depending on the screen and whether matching hardware is still available. Show us what you have and we will tell you either way.

Squeegee after each shower, clean with a mild cleaner and a soft cloth, and ventilate the room. Abrasive pads leave permanent scratches that hold soap scum.
